Jukka Perko Tritone

30 years ago, trumpetist Dizzy Gillespie offered a flying start to the 19-year-old Jukka Perko by recruiting him into his big band on his 70th anniversary celebration tour, with which Perko toured across Europe and the United States for two years. Gillespie had a long and respected career, making jazz history for many decades.

Above all, he became known as the chief architect of bebop jazz in the 1940s along with Charlie Parker. Importing Afro-Cuban rhythms into the jazz tradition can also be counted to his credit. So in this unique concert, Perko with his trio, shakes Dizzy’s most outrageous bebop tunes and Afro-Cuban classics into a thrilling cocktail; A Night in Tunisia, Con Alma and Tin Tin Deo get multifaceted interpretations from this trio of Finnish jazz stars.
