Mirja Mäkelä Trio julkaisi uuden levyn ‘So Far, So Me’ April Jazz -festivaalilla 29.4.2022. Julkaisijana on suomalainen Eclipse Music.
Mirja Mäkelä Trio has been working together since 2006. The trio consists of the very best jazz musicians in Finland, each of the members being well established in the Finnish jazz scene. The trio's repertoire presents mostly Mäkelä's own compositions which are based on Finnish poems. There are also lyrics in English written by Mäkelä herself, and some wordless songs where Mirja uses her voice as an instrument. The trio has performed at numerous festivals and clubs both in Finland and abroad, for example Pori Jazz, April Jazz, Korppoo Sea Jazz.
Mirja Mäkelä's first solo album 'Secret Playground' was released year 2000, and it was chosen as one of the best jazz albums of the year by the biggest Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. Mäkelä's second album 'Arco Íris' year 2003 was a collaboration with Swedish musicians Jonas Knutsson (saxophone), Christian Spering (bass) and Bengt Berger (drums). With her own Mirja Mäkelä Trio she has established her own style as a singer and composer, having out by now already three unique trio albums: Runoisa (2008), My Hidden Joys (2015) and So Far, So Me (2022).
