You are walking on the silent streets of the city at night, when you feel a look in your back of your head. A mysterious character has been following your every step. How does this sound like?
Only a few movie directors have really understood, what perfectly selected music accomplishes in the viewer. Without deeply touching music, we wouldn’t get goosebumps, the kisses on the screen wouldn’t burn, and the knife blows wouldn’t cut us.
The Psycho Suite by Bernard Herrmann, John Corigliano’s Chaconne from the movie The Red Violin, the dances from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, the trio part from the period drama Barry Lyndon by Franz Schubert. An international group of top musicians, invited to Oulu by our artistic director Elina Vähälä, performs classical compositions, the trace of which has remained permanent in the history of the big screen. This is what Hollywood sounds like at its most elegant – and most surprising.
