The program of the 26th Oulu Music Festival out now
The 2016 edition of Oulu Music Festival is presenting a thrilling compilation of both Finnish and international music, viagra 100mg art performances and master classes around the beautiful city of Oulu. This year’s program is a unique set of contemporary chamber music, best acts of Finnish jazz, vocal ensembles, contemporary circus, folk music and dance performances. The festival will culminate on Thursday March 24th with the Easter classic St. John Passion by J.S. Bach conducted by the festival’s artistic director Jaakko Kuusisto.
The opening act for the 26th festival is the mega combo combining rap and big band music, Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen sana. The band has gained huge success in Finland and in Oulu it will present material from the new album 'Korottaa panoksii'. The primus motor of Ricky-Tick Big Band and the master class teacher in rhythm music, guitarist Valtteri Pöyhönen will also have a gig with his most compelling jazz group Dalindèo. In the same event with Dalindèo the Finnish designers will present fresh ideas of Finnish casual and street fashion to the festival audience.
One of the highly praised jazz groups performing at Oulu Music Festival is trumpetist Verneri Pohjola's quartet who’s latest album Bullhorn has also gained a lot of international recognition. Festival’s jazz line-up also includes e.g. Herman Hesse’s texts performed by the rap artist Tommi Lindgren and musicians Teppo Mäkynen and Jussi Kannaste. Rave for MAD, group of dancer-djs and media artists, will give their exclusive part to this colorful concert when they mix contemporary dance art to underground club culture. Oulu Music Festival is also organizing Master classes for violin, cello, chamber music, vocal ensembles and rhythm music. Master class students will also perform during the festival.
Festival’s chamber music program introduces both young artists and experienced musicians. Violinist Tami Pohjola and cello player Klaus Mäkelä are competition winners from the past years and rising stars of the Finnish classical music scene. International performers such as Paul Bliss and Miriam Fried are names that have been related to high-class chamber music for years. Chamber music repertoire includes music from Mozart to Schönberg. Oulu Symphonic Orchestra is also presenting it's annual concert on Oulu Music Festival which theme is this year French chamber music.
Oulu Music Festival treats audience also with contemporary circus and folk music shows. Internationally known Ilona Jäntti, hailing from Oulu, combines contemporary circus and live music in her aerial acrobatic pieces Handspun and Pix Graeca. Frigg, one of the most internationally recognized contemporary folk music groups in Finland, gives a performance in Oulu. Group has developed their own musical mix that could be called as “the nordgrass” that combines both Nordic and Irish folk music traditions to the American bluegrass tradition.
