Oulu Music Festival organizes master classes for violin, cello, chamber music, vocal ensemble singing and rhythm music in March 2016. The application period starts on the 26th of November and ends on Friday the 15th of January 2016. The applicants can apply as a passive or an active student. The decisions are made in February and all the applicants will be personally informed of the results. Go to Oulu Music Festival's website under Master classes to find the application form.
This year's cello and chamber music teacher is cellist Marko Ylönen, one of the top Finnish cellist at the moment who has performed as a chamber musician and as a soloist around the world. Master classes in violin are given by violin player Miriam Fried whose successful solo career started in 1968 when she won thePaganini Competition in Genoa. Miriam has performed with virtually every major orchestra in the United States and Europe. Drummer Teppo Mäkynen, an award winning musician-composer-producer, and guitarist-composer Valtteri Laurell Pöyhönen, who is the leader of jazz sextet Dalindèo and the new 17-member all-star outfit Ricky-Tick Big Band, will be in charge of the rhythm music master classes. Highly appreciated vocal group Rajaton, a six member a cappella vocal group, will be teaching the vocal ensemble singing master classes.
